Go Guardians!

This is a good choice of name for our baseball team here in Cleveland. The art deco statues on the Hope Memorial (aka Lorain-Carnegie) bridge are iconic, and symbolic of the role we all need to play right now. We all need to be guardians of our democracy, that’s for sure.
A lot is under attack, so Guardian is an excellent choice of name and the logo is smart, as well. Now, if they could do something about the indescribably weird Slider cavorting around the ballpark, that would be really glorious.
It will take many people time to get accustomed to the change, and like anything else, about half the people seem to like it and about half the people don’t. That’s just the way people are, I guess. “Guardians” was always our first choice for the name, so when things go your way, that feels good.
But it’s time to move on from all the controversy surrounding the old racist name and worse cartoon character that was used as the team’s mascot image for almost a hundred years. The promo video released today with Tom Hank’s narration is pretty awesome, so definitely track that down.
It feels good to have the anticipation over and hopefully the ugliness of the debate won’t be too far behind fading into the past. Now we can go about choosing a new mayor, and that fascinating process is just gearing up. Should be a really exhilarating experience!
